1. Introduction
Tai (“Tai”, “we”, “us”) provides a warm, reflective companion experience over WhatsApp and the web. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use Tai, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Tai you agree to the practices described here.
Tai is a non-clinical emotional support companion. It is not a therapist, doctor, clinical care provider, crisis service, or replacement for professional help. See our Terms & Conditions for the boundaries of the service.
2. Information We Collect
We collect a small amount of information so we can support you well and run the service safely:
- Account information: your WhatsApp number, optional full name, optional preferred name, language, and timezone.
- Onboarding answers: preferences and basic profile data you share during onboarding (e.g. preferred language).
- Conversation activity:messages you send to Tai (web chat and WhatsApp), and Tai's replies. Privacy controls described below limit how much of this we retain.
- Delivery and operational logs: records that a daily message was queued, sent, delivered, or failed, plus timestamps, error reasons, and similar metadata.
- Authentication events:one-time-passcode (OTP) requests and verifications used to sign you in. We never store the plaintext OTP — only a one-way hash.
We do not collect payment card numbers ourselves. If a third-party processor (for example System.io) handles your subscription, the card details stay with that processor.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Deliver your daily reflections and respond to your messages.
- Tailor language and timing to your profile and timezone.
- Operate, secure, and improve the service (rate limiting, error recovery, fraud prevention).
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
We do not use your private conversation content to train third-party generative AI models.
4. WhatsApp Communication
Tai sends and receives messages through Meta's WhatsApp Business Platform. WhatsApp is operated by Meta, and your use of WhatsApp is governed by Meta's own policies. When you message Tai, Meta processes that message in order to deliver it — this is normal for any WhatsApp Business account.
Daily messages sent outside of an open 24-hour customer-service window use approved WhatsApp message templates only. We never send marketing or promotional content via WhatsApp without your consent.
5. AI Conversation Privacy
When you chat with Tai, an AI model helps generate the reply. To keep replies coherent the model is given limited recent context from your active session (typically up to twenty messages).
- Your conversations are not used to train AI models owned by Tai or by our model providers.
- We minimize what we keep. Where configured, sensitive private message content is stored as a placeholder rather than the raw text.
- We do log non-sensitive metadata (timestamps, token counts, language, source) so administrators can monitor service health and AI usage. Admins do not see the contents of your private conversations.
6. Data Storage and Security
Your information is stored on managed cloud infrastructure with access controls, encryption in transit, and routine security monitoring. We follow reasonable industry practices, but no internet-based service can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
We retain account information for as long as your account is active and only as long as we have a legitimate operational or legal reason to do so.
7. User Control and Session Clearing
From your Profile page you can clear your active web session. This removes the recent messages from your private web session in Tai.
Clearing your web session does not delete messages from your WhatsApp app. WhatsApp messages live on your phone and on Meta's infrastructure; please use the WhatsApp app to manage those.
You can request full account deletion by contacting support. Some operational records (delivery logs, security events) may be retained for a limited period to meet our legal and security obligations.
8. Payment Data
Tai does not store credit card or other payment-instrument data. When subscriptions or other paid features are offered, billing is handled by a third-party payment provider (for example System.io). Payment details are entered with that provider and remain with them.
We may receive limited metadata back from the payment provider (e.g. subscription active/inactive, plan name) so we can enable features tied to your subscription.
9. Contact
